Power Explanation

NOTE:

Hamon/Ripple is a canon ability Joseph has for his whole life.
Hermit Purple is obtained at the age of 67.
Verbal Prediction is a Mask Or Menace granted ability and applies only to that game.

Hamon/Ripple.

First I should explain, Hamon (also known as Ripple) is, as described on the JoJo wiki, "an ancient form of martial arts" that "through self-controlled respiration, one can link a trained person with the energy of the Sun."

Therefore using Ripple, one can basically access the power of the sun's rays and redirect the energy from the sun into offensive, defensive, and even restoration abilities. The main purpose of Ripple in Part 1 and Part 2 of the manga is to fight Vampires and other darkness-based enemies. Because it's the sun's power essentially, it is extremely effective against those with weaknesses to the sun, and to light. If one's control of their Ripple is powerful enough, it can begin to mimic the sun's rays to the point of being able to melt flesh off skin. One's own Ripple, however, cannot be used against them because it is their own energy. Unless they are also a vampire or something, but Joseph isn't, so moving on.

Second, Ripple is Absolute Bullshit in what it can do. It is basically an "I can do anything" power, much like what Goku from Dragonball Z can do, and Superman from DC comics. So keep in mind that Ripple can do pretty much everything to a certain extent, and if the user is powerful enough. That said, the main weaknesses a Ripple user would have is if they are unable to use their Ripple due to either being unable to breathe (being choked, no air in the immediate environment), or having too low a body temperature (since the
ability is based off the sun and all).

The main ways to use Ripple are to: one, to use it offensively by itself and its user; or two, use Ripple to charge an object, so that it can become more powerful. Ripple power, once built up, can also transfer from Ripple users to one another. Certain substances like liquids (water, oil, wine, crushed up beetle shells???) conduct Ripple better than others, which tend to magnify Ripple power, or allow better control of it.

In canon, Joseph's abilities with Ripple include:

- Infusing Ripple into various parts of his body (his arm, his hair) in order to either strengthen them (like strengthening his hair to become hard enough to block bullets???) or lengthen them (like extending his arm to be able to punch someone at a longer distance).

- Infusing Ripple into objects (such as glass, weapons, his Stand). The most common use of Ripple infusion by Joseph besides Hermit Purple is into a pair of Clackers. When the clackers are infused with Ripple, Joseph uses them essentially like a flail, and can fling them at the enemy. He can also chuck them like a boomerang, as long as one of the balls of the clackers hits a wall correctly, enough to bounce back to him.

This doesn't prevent them from looking like the stupidest weapon ever though.

- Overdrive, which is essentially, a big blast of Ripple energy, which again can be used offensively, or defensively. Offensively, it's obvious, it's basically just a charge up for a punch or hit. Defensively, it can be used to block an attack or destroy parasites like Dio's weirdo fleshbud things.

The Stand, Hermit Purple.

Hermit Purple is a Stand. "Generally, Stands defend and empower their users in a variety of ways, and when revealed may be represented by figures hovering near to them." Hermit Purple in particular is one of the few Stands that does not have a humanoid form, and instead takes the shape of a series of purple thorny vines. As such, it is not a Stand one can really fight with.

Hermit Purple stats:
Destructive Power: D
Speed: C
Range: D
Durability: A
Precision: D
Developmental Power: E

So as you can see, it's not... really good. In fact, Dio says it's literally the worst Stand. And in terms of fighting power, it pretty much is. But in exchange for it's horrible strength, it has powerful psychic abilities, and is capable of carrying Joseph if he used it like a whip or grappling hook.

Powers of Hermit Purple:

- Allow Joseph to use a camera to psychically focus on a target, and the camera will produce a photo of them, be it a person, place, or thing. This can give clues to the target's location, or state of being. Joseph, however, needs to destroy the camera he's using to produce a single photo.

...He doesn't yet know he doesn't really need to destroy the camera to get the photo.

- Allows Joseph to use a television to produce live footage of his target, or to receive psychic audio, which is the television channels changing very fast so that the audio produces a message. May also result in broken televisions if he's not careful.

- Allows Joseph to read the minds of his opponents, if he is close enough to wrap his Stand around someone. The mind reading is actually quite powerful, and can find more than just surface thoughts- it can find whatever Joseph is consciously looking for.

- Ripple Transmission is essentially, Joseph using Hermit Purple as an extension of his body, and then infusing Ripple into his Stand. An instance of this, for example, is if he wrapped his own body in Hermit Purple, and then infused Ripple into the Stand. This would prevent vampire-like beings from touching him.

Verbal Prediction.
Example from canon.

Joseph tends to do this thing where he'll says "And next you'll say..." or "You're going to say next..." followed by the line the person he's speaking to saying the same line after him. This is credited towards him just being extra capable of predicting his opponents moves, to the point he'll know what they're going to say next.

However in MoM, it's taken to the next level where he can actually make a person say something, as long as it's preceded by "And next you'll say..." or "You're going to say next..." (or something along those lines)

The person in question will be completely unable to stop themself from saying the line in question, which can be used by Joseph to just be an overconfident brat, or a complete asshole. Of course, I'll talk to the muns in mind before he uses it on their character.
